Search and Rescue (SAR) efforts

         
 
 

Pakistan Maritime Security Agency has been assigned additional tasks of maintaining Marine Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) on behalf of Ministry of Communication to readily respond to emergencies and coordinate SAR operations.  PMSA undertakes SAR operations itself or requests other authorities or even MRCCs of other countries for prompt and effective SAR Operations. PMSA has so far rescued a large number of vessels in distress at high seas.  In August 1999, PMSA in coordination with assistance of other agencies, carried out the biggest ever rescue operation in the history of Pakistan by rescuing 43 crew of a grounded North Korean vessel approximately 90 NM east of Karachi. Pakistan Maritime Security Agency has so far rescued a large number of vessels in distress at high seas.  Some of the SAR operations conducted during last few years are shown below:
