* On 11 Nov 10, Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and Pakistan Customs preventive (ASO) carried out joint operation on the bases of credible intelligence.  During patrolling the PMSA unit intercepted one boat carrying large quantity of liquor in open sea.  Upon sighting the PMSA unit, the smugglers immediately set the boat on fire and escaped in a fast speed boat which they were carrying with them.  PMSA unit chased the smugglers, however, due to shallow water and dark night they managed to escape.  PMSA and Customs staff recovered about 600 tins of beer from the boat.  Due to heavy fire onboard the smuggler’s boat alongwith remaining liquor sank in the sea.

According to intelligence sources there were 5 crew on smuggler’s boat and they were carrying approximately 9600 bottles of liquor and 4500 tins of beer with the intension to bring them into Pakistan.  Although, the recovery is very small, however, the efforts generated have foiled smugglers in their attempt to smuggle large quantity of liquor and beer into Pakistan.  The recovered items have been handed over to Pakistan Customs for further legal proceedings.
