AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY

     PMSA area of responsibility extends from coastline to seaward and covers all maritime zones of Pakistan. These include:

a.       Territorial waters                                   12 NM

b.      Contiguous zone                                     24 NM

c.       Exclusive Economic Zone                         200 NM

     At present this area is roughly 240,000 Sq Km which is almost 1/3^rd the size of the country.  This area is likely to be extended to 295,000 Sq Km.  In addition to this, Pakistan is also assigned a Search and Rescue area by International Maritime Organization(IMO), which extends up to 840 NM from the coast.
